Kamvas 22 Review (and comparison to kamvas 13)
I have been using the Huion kamvas 22(2020) for about a week and here are my thoughts on it.
Before the jump to the 22 I was using the kamvas 13, so I'll be mostly comparing them.
-Parallax: The kamvas 22 doesn't have a fully laminated display but it really feels like it does, the parallax is unnoticeable, practically the same as the 13's.
-Size: It's very big, perhaps to big! It takes up too much of my desk space and makes the keyboard awkward to reach. The pros of such a screen are that I never have to zoom in when drawing single characters, unless I'm adding small details, this makes me far more efficient and faster at drawing.
-Resolution: The screen is obviously less pixel dense, the two displays have the same amount of pixels, that results in my drawings looking less crisp when viewing them on the 22. It's not a deal breaker in my opinion, but what is a deal breaker is..
-Buttons: There are none! I have been using buttons on my drawing tablets ever since I got my first one many years ago, I though I could adapt to using the keyboard but I couldn't make it work. The tablet is too large for my 87 key keyboard to stand by it's side soo I have to move it to different spots, all of which force me to stand in uncommittable positions. This is most likely a personal issue and isn't important to many users who prefer keyboards when drawing. The lack of buttons has a large impact on my drawings, it makes me want to undo lines quite less often resulting in me being faster and loosing bad habits, like undoing every line until I get one that I find perfect. But it makes me keep lines that I find less than perfect. If this tablet had at least 6 buttons I wouldn't be complaining but I knew that it didn't before I bough it.
-Screen: It feels fantastic, even better than the kamvas 13's, The paper-like texture has a great feel to it. Tho the colors that I got when I turned on the display looked a bit washed out, but after a bit of tinkering in its easy to access setting I got it to look the same as kamvas 13's (They both have 120% sRGB)
-Everything else: The pens are the same(both fantastic), the 3 in 1 cable requires one to be pugged into a power brick instead if USB port, good build(heavier and colder to the touch when drawing), the stand is very versatile and sturdy.
This is a fantastic pen display, especially for its price!
If your thinking between getting this and it's plus version I would save the 100$ and buy this one, unless you really want the extra 20% sRGB and glass etched screen.
But unfortunately this pen display isn't for me, it's lack of buttons make it very awkward to use in combination with it's size makes my keyword difficult to reach, this forced to me hold uncomfortable positions further ruining a usually fun experience. (if you already use a keyboard and have adapted to that lifestyle you can just ignore that complaint)
Another personal dislike is the resolution, 1080p on 22 inches is small, 2k would be preferred if the viewing experience is up-close.
So! If you don't mind there being no shortcut keys and would prefer a larger screen over the more pixel dense, smaller one. Then I honestly couldn't recommend a better 22 inch pen display, Huions price to performance is unmatched.
Unfortunately it isn't for everyone, including me.
For now I'll be sticking to my smaller kamvas 13, I'm not ready to abandon shortcut keys.
I hope this review helps you!
