Yeah I know there's a lot of requests for this game, I mean, it's a really good game!
I've been postponing this request, unable to complete it, sometimes I would forget to continue, other times I thought maybe I shouldn't post it. I don't know if this will work out or not, but I'll never know if I don't try.
Sorry, I don't know if it's too long or if I had added unnecessary info, but I felt like I wanted to write about it! I don't know if this is okay so here it goes...
What is this game? Well, probably most of us, if not all, already know this game. It's one of the most popular games ever, and it definitely makes sense. The very first time I knew about the existance of this game I was amazed. You build your own house just as you want it to be, like legos, AND survive creatures!? Oh wow!
Oh you want a love letter for the game? Well, I don't know how to do those... uh I've never done one... but there is always a first time!
The first time I discovered the game was on Christmas, 2011 was that year, maybe even 2011. One of my cousins was playing the game, one of the very early versions of Pocket Edition on his tablet. I think it was me and his brother who were watching him play on it, he had many games. I didn't own any devices and his brother was too young to use them, so basically we were very interested in watching him play. There were two games that caught my attention the most, that was Minecraft and some gory version of Temple Run (For this last one he used an option to diable blood and a cosmetic to hide the character face so I didn't even know about the blood until later)
I asked for the names of both of these games, once I got the answers I tried my best to not forget them. The trip back to home was long, and usually being on that place (the place where we spent chirstmas) doesn't really bring me the best memories, so I got back upset, added to my memory being the great machine of forgetting names, I forgot the names of both games. I think I remembered more of the TR copy thing than MC. After arriving at home, I realised I didn't even remember the names.
I was one of those teens with no phone, or social medias, or anything at all. But I had the chance to use a computer to do homework if it was necessary, so when I had the chance, I would try to Google these both games. I have no idea of how my searching skills were this bad but I was unable to find them there, and I didn't spend a lot of time searching for them, instead I was playing Flash games for the most of the time. (pffff obviously that would be for 20 minutes after finishing homework) I would also search it as a tablet game, I never knew it was available on pc.
One day, in 2012 I got a tablet. The very first thing I thought was "Oh god that game!
" I still didn't even remember the game's name, but I knew it existed and the icon had green and brown and that it was some square. I searched if it was already on the tablet, obviously it wasn't there but I still tried. I wanted to search for games, to just play something, so I asked my dad for help as I had no idea on how I could get games on it. He first opened this strange thing called "Google Play store" "It has play, it must have games on it! Every time I get closer!
" Except the app never worked, not until after a long time. So I had to wait more.
I was at school, I don't remember the chronology of what happened at this point, I had discovered the name of this game I've been searching for so long. It was Minecraft, and this time I would make sure I didn't forget the name. That same month I would discover another game that I would end up searching like crazy but found out about it again until it got popular, that was Plague Inc. If you use and Android you will probably know that Plague Inc is already free, and the difference with this game and Minecraft, is that I could actually get Plague inc. The problem with Minecraft at that time wasn't even the price, but the method of paying for it. My father was just very against entering credit card info on apps and that kind of stuff, so...
At school, one of my friends had a demo version of the game (smooth brained younger me never noticed there being a demo version, or that this was a demo) they would let me play sometimes between classes, some nice 5 minutes of demo Minecraft, enough to make me love this game, it didn't have anything but being able to build what I wanted just as if they were legos made me feel nice. I could place an infinite amount of blocks (actually it was limited because old MCPE worlds were not very large) and that was better than building with 50 lego blocks with the same shape and same 5 colors. I had to get this game on my tablet!
One day I found this one store where many apps were free. So I was there searching for Minecraft and I actually got it. I did feel bad because I wasn't supposed to do that.
What I got was Minecraft Pocket edition 0.5.0.
I felt excitement, and was scared too. I wasn't allowed to be doing this, but I still did it. And, finally, we were together. Dream game and me. Nothing could stop me now. It took me a very long time to finally find it, and install it. It was me and Minecraft finally together.
I also got the version 0.6.1, I realised something shouldn't be happening and that was me owning both of these versions. I still have these saved somewhere, a very old folder, I even had my old worlds and pictures I took with the in-game camera but one day I accidentally deleted these pics and worlds, that was a week ago, and they're unrecoverable by now.
I used 0.5.0 for a very long time. My first ever world, was named "Wow world" and it was survival. I don't remember what I had put on the seed, but it was probably wow world too, or I left that empty. I spawned in or near a snowy area, I had no idea about what to do. It felt magical, to try this new game and have no specific objective, I didn't know how things worked. I only knew that the zombies would appear at night and that I can break and place blocks. I inmediately built a 1x2x3 house right at spawn with dirt. Many people mention making dirt houses but they're always larger than this. The ceiling was exactly tall as me, and I could barely move inside. Maybe that house wasn't the best idea, and buidling it where I had it felt insecure, it was too exposed. I decided to explore, until I found a mountain. I climbed to the top, I decided I would build my dirt house there, and I would combine it with the trees around, so their leaves would be my walls. I began getting more items, the first thing I melted was sand, I knew I could make glass that way since I remembered learning that from school. I realized maybe I could create more special blocks by doings things like this, so I discovered many things that way. I didn't like looking at guides about this game, what I loved the most was finding out new things by myself there.
The weapon I liked using the most was the bow, as using a sword to click on the monsters was pretty hard on a mobile device. I was surprised when I discovered that there were not only zombies, but skeletons, spiders and the green thing as well. That thing, I found it very interesting, I had never seen something like it in my life. I only knew that it exploded if we got too close and it made a curious sound when hurt. It took me a while to know it's name, but I was fascinated with how it worked. I made drawings trying to interpret it in other ways, even drew it as a grenade. One day one of my friends told me how it was called
Herobrine. The way I found out about this one was... unique. I was playing in Wow world, it was night, I never noiced the creepers could see me through the my leaves walls, one blew up one side of my house, the one with leaves and destroyed a lot of the mountain house. This house had a ceiling made of glass, the floor was rocks, three walls were dirt and the fourth was trees. Another creeper came from the opposite side and blew up the rest. This house wasn't even that small, it was at least 15x20. I don't know how the other one saw me but it did. I don't know if it was both the explosions that dropped too many blocks for my tablet to handle, or I was already scared by the sudden explosions, maybe it was just because of me still being very young and being easily scared at that age. After both explosions I heard a zombie, whose groan was slower and deeper, along with a sound that was like blocks breaking, or just steps, coming closer to me. Basically I just panicked and tried to dig a hole and maybe get away from that mountain, but after diggin a bit I just quit. The story sounds like some creepypasta, it even had me playing at night, not midnight as it wasn't very late but I was in a room with the lights off and in the game I could only see my HUD. The next day I told some friend about it and they mentioned it could be "Herobrine". This friend mentioned that the entity could corrupt worlds as well. I imagined that guy as some electricity thing, like that one enemy from spiderman except it was really buff in my mind and I was intimidated by the thought.
Yes, I didn't try to google it, not after my hunt of course. Before I went to my wow world to begin my hunt, I made a creative world to chill a bit, of course, I couldnt die on creative mode so that felt safe. According to my logic if I couldnt die in that world I couldnt die in real life (It doesn't make sense, wow past me). After I got back to wow world I notice something, the world was just as how it was when I just created it, but I had my inventory (this was actually a bug). Of course I got scared because the friend said the thing could corrupt worlds, so I played in that world by only digging tunnels. And my creative world started to loose some "chunks" (Not sure if the PE version used them like java or bedrock) so basically some blocks just dissapeared from existance. That got a bit stressful so I decided to search on the internet for this so called Herobrine. After some videos and other things, I realized he wasn't real and just forgot about everything that just had happened the last times I played the game.
I got back to the game, and just wnt with it. I had been using 0.5.0 for a long time, I started feeling like there weren't many things on the game. I wanted to move lava and water blocks, I wanted to light TNT on creative, what was that blue block? I had fun with the nether reactor core, free items and a free obsidian structure that destroyed one of my houses. Good times.
I found out about a ton of bugs on it. To this day, I still don't know which happened only on my device and which were actually on the app. One of the worst ones was world data deletion when creating a new world. This was what happened to wow world. When I created a world from the big button instead of the small one, it would delete almost everything from any other worlds. There were a bunch of duplication glitches. Trees liked to grow right when I passed near them and suffocate me to death. Worlds would get some random corruptions. Beds would teleport me to higher places than from the place I had slept.
When I felt like I couldn't do much than build, I discovered the inveditor, so I discovered more blocks that I didn't know existed. The cake (there was sugar and canes but nothing to finish the cake or the cake itself on the crafting table), ink sacs, signs, water and lava blocks, cobwebs, a... camera? To edit signs I had to open the inveditor, and to give myself these special blocks too. My tablet could not take screenshots for some reason, but the camera could take screenshots of the game, the only problem was that it made a lot of smoke so basically every screen capture was smoke particles. I even found this one things, redstone ore, you couldn't mine these on this version. This was how I discovered redstone builds, but, I couldn't do them. These were only for pc. No MCPE had redstones.
Maybe I had to update this apk I found on the other store? Yes, I could update it, but only to 0.6.1. The only new things on that version were armor, a stone cutter, signs, baby animals and I think the camera was removed. I couldn't update this to a more recent mcpe version, which was only 0.7.0, and I really didn't want to go around getting mcpes from shady websites. The last time I had played this MCPE was maybe at the beginning of 2015. I remember finding about FNaF before it got insanely popular, I remember this as it was when my tablet began having some minor problems, it was corrupting itself. The minor symptoms were the minecraft worlds and the images only showing the correct one when I zoomed in. I knew this wasn't time to play games, but to backup files. I had backups of the MC worlds, but accidentally deleted them recently. It was not long after the charger broke, so there was no way of backing up more things or playing on there.
My father had given me an old laptop he didn't use anymore. It still ran xp. I decided I would get the pc version... Java version. But I wanted to get this one legit, mostly, I wanted my own skin. I made one around 2014 thinking I would be able to use it on MCPE. Except that only worked on PC and witha legit version. I looked for the Minecraft site, and did find it. This version costed more than the pocket one, but it had way more things, like REDSTONE and BUCKETS. I had actually started saving some money for myself at that point, but had no way to get this version. No credit cards. I think I did find out about the gift ones so that I could get the game without needing any credi cards. But at that time, they weren't even available where I lived. Never had seen any for years.
I just decided to watch some videos about the game. First 1.7.10, nice version yeah. There was then 1.8, I never liked Alex's skin, and I knew that non premium accounts would be only able to use Alex. I was definetely not going to use that skin. There was then 1.9. These two last updates felt a bit off, but it was probably because I was used to the basic MCPE 0.5.0, and never really played those versions anyway, I just saw people try them out. I think later that same year Pocket edition stopped being Pocket edition, the one version I had played for a long time stopped existing. There where so many different things, from textures to sounds. It was when MCPE had become MC Bedrock.
The last I heard about Minecraft was the 1.10.0 Java update. That dropped almost in 2017. At that time I had lost hopes to play MC. So I almost forgot about it, just heard those occasional mentions of the game from time to time, there were lots of references everywhere but they had started to die down.
Minecraft started to get a lot of attention I think on 2019, I don't exactly know what happened but it became super popular again. Basically, this time instead of getting buillied for liking the game the toxic fans would bully the ones who didn't like it (looking at you certain memes subreddit). I wanted to see some of the new things on the game, and, there where definetely a LOT of new things. Even new additions to redstone. I know there are crucial differences between Bedrock's and Java's Minecraft. And I like Java more. Java also feels like the more complete version. Just like comparing old MCPE to old Java. It was recent when I heard about a certain update, the nether update, pretty sure this one released this year. That looks beautiful. But out of that I'm almost clueless about what has happened to the game during the last years.
About the gift cards. It is an almost ridiculous situation. You see, the very first time I saw a MC gift card on a stor was last year, mid 2019. Of course, when I saw it I wasn't carrying enough money, so maybe I should wait for another time. The next times, when I would actually have the money, there were no cards. Alright, I guess people buy them before I can. It was almost the end of the year, the same thing just kept happening, either I didn't have the money when I found one, or when I was carrying the money I couldn't find any. As time went, I noticed cards related to videogames were decreasing for some reason, Steam cards and other games too, I remember some mmorpg probably. I only found Steam cards at some points, no mc ones. During all that time, I had been saving money, but, things happened which I won't really mention as they're just infuriating. In the end, I would just cooperate all my saving to my family, because we needed them. Which is nice (so remember, saving money is really good for emergencies) but then I had no money, and would have to save up again. Quarantine hit almost at the same time as this. So probably even if I had money left I wouldn't have been able to go out and buy Minecraft. I decided I would start saving all over again, but I decided that I'm going to save up for a new pc. The one I have right now (it is no longer the windows xp one) is getting kind of old, and I would like to get some extra frames on videogames, so Instead of buying games I would buy a computer (More like computer parts of course) I don't really know how long that will take. I'm too scared to go work outside, people aren't really following proper indications so I'd rather not risk it a lot, only go outside if it's really necessary.
The reason I want Java specifically is that there's more I can do with it. Even if both versions are being updated the same, theyre not really the same thing. Especially with combat and redstone. One of the things I want to experiment the most is redstone. I've seen there's some sticky blocks, two of them actually, apparently they let you do even more things with redstone? I really want to make redstone traps for mobs, on the 0.5.0 pocket, the most I could do was put a hole with a cactus underneath a trap door, and on 0.6.1 break a block above me and drop sand on the mob or myself. (Gravity was added on the 0.6)
Also I had made a Minecraft account last year but basically it's just a minecraft account with no minecraft. I don't even know if I should link that or how that would be possible. Maybe the Steam account works?
